Netflix’s back-to-back release calendar this week is doing a lot of heavy lifting: an ice-bath sports interview show returning with its biggest guest list yet, and one of television’s most beloved sitcoms finally getting the sequel fans have been asking for since 2012. Kevin Hart’s Cold As Balls and the Hillman College return of A Different World are both landing within days of each other, and both are generating very specific, high-intent searches from people trying to pin down exactly who’s involved before they commit an evening to either one.
Here’s the full breakdown of both shows — guest lists, cast details, release dates, and everything else people are actually searching for right now, plus a quick clarification on a third title that’s been circulating in the same conversation but actually streams somewhere else entirely.
Cold As Balls Season 13: Full Guest List
Kevin Hart’s long-running ice-bath interview series Cold As Balls makes its Netflix debut with Season 13, premiering globally on September 20, 2026, with all seven new episodes available at once. The show, which started in 2017 and has run for over 100 episodes across its history, sees Hart interviewing major sports and entertainment figures while both parties sit submerged in tubs of ice — think Hot Ones, but freezing instead of spicy, and arguably just as quotable.
The season’s guest list, filmed live at Fanatics Fest in New York in August 2026, is the show’s biggest and most varied yet:
- Serena Williams — tennis legend and 23-time Grand Slam singles champion
- Novak Djokovic — the seventh and final guest confirmed for the season, joining fellow tennis great Williams in a rare doubles of sorts for the show’s guest lineup
- Rob Gronkowski — retired NFL tight end and four-time Super Bowl champion
- Cooper Flagg — the college basketball phenom, interviewed before his selection in the 2026 NBA Draft
- Sean O’Malley — UFC bantamweight fighter
- Zlatan Ibrahimović — international soccer icon
- IShowSpeed — the internet personality and streamer, representing a newer kind of celebrity than the show has traditionally featured
The season also features a notable first: Saturday Night Live cast member Marcello Hernández makes a special appearance, becoming the first-ever non-athlete guest in the show’s history — a deliberate expansion of the format beyond its original sports-only premise.
What Is Cold As Balls, Exactly?
For anyone unfamiliar with the format: Cold As Balls pairs Kevin Hart with a guest, both seated in tubs filled with ice water, for a conversation that mixes genuine career and life discussion with the comedic discomfort of trying to stay composed while freezing. It’s produced by OBB in association with Hartbeat (Hart’s own production company), co-created by Michael D. Ratner and Sean Thomas Spencer, with Ratner directing the new season and serving as showrunner alongside Kfir Goldberg. Past guests across the show’s run have included Tom Brady, Kelsey Plum, and Blake Griffin, among dozens of others, establishing a pedigree of A-list sports guests long before this Netflix jump.
In a statement announcing the Netflix move, Hart called the partnership “a homecoming,” adding: “I’m pairing two of my favorite entities together for unbeatable conversation and content. I love that for 12, going on 13 seasons, this show continues to be a celebration of sports and entertainment.” OBB founder and CEO Michael D. Ratner echoed that sentiment, noting the show has spent “13 seasons” filming with “the biggest names in sports, on the biggest stages, for billions of viewers around the world.”
The mix of guests this season — from Grand Slam-winning veterans to a not-yet-drafted college star to a social-media-native personality like IShowSpeed — reflects a deliberate broadening of what “celebrity” means for the show’s format, testing whether the same ice-tub setup works as well for internet-native fame as it has for traditional sports stardom.
A Different World Netflix Cast: Everything You Need to Know
The other major Netflix arrival this week is the long-awaited sequel to A Different World, the beloved 1987–93 NBC sitcom set at the fictional HBCU Hillman College. The new series premieres September 24, 2026 — deliberately timed to land exactly 39 years to the day after the original series first aired.
The new show follows Deborah Wayne (Maleah Joi Moon, of Hell’s Kitchen on Broadway), the youngest daughter of original series characters Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, as she begins her freshman year at her parents’ alma mater and works to build her own identity outside their long shadow at Hillman.
Returning Original Cast Members
- Kadeem Hardison as Dwayne Wayne
- Jasmine Guy as Whitley Gilbert
- Darryl M. Bell as Ron Johnson
- Cree Summer as Freddie Brooks
- Charnele Brown as Dr. Kimberly Reese Boyer
- Karen Malina White, Ajai Sanders, Dawnn Lewis, Glynn Turman, Jenifer Lewis, and other original-series alumni reprising their roles in various capacities
Debbie Allen — who directed 83 episodes and produced 122 during the original series’ run — returns as executive producer and director, helming three episodes including the premiere. Allen will also make a surprise on-screen appearance as Dr. Langhorne.
New Cast Joining Hillman’s Next Generation
- Maleah Joi Moon as Deborah Wayne, the lead
- Method Man (Cliff “Method Man” Smith) as the football coach
- Amir Rodale, portraying the first openly queer main character in the show’s history
- Alijah Kai, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, Kennedi Reece, Chibuikem Uche, Vincent Jamal Hooper, Elijah J. Roberts, Renee Harrison, Famecia Ward, Dasan Frazier, Tichina Arnold, Joshua Suiter, Raven Goodwin, Norman Nixon Jr., rounding out the new generation of Hillman students and faculty
Notably, Jada Pinkett Smith is also listed among cast reprising prior roles, adding another familiar name from the extended A Different World universe to the new season, alongside additional returning faces like Norman Nixon Jr. and Raven Goodwin who round out the supporting faculty and staff at Hillman.
Who’s Behind the A Different World Revival
Felicia Pride (Bel-Air, Grey’s Anatomy) serves as showrunner and executive producer, working alongside original-series creative alumni Debbie Allen, Reggie Rock Bythewood, and Gina Prince-Bythewood, plus Tom Werner and Mandy Summers. Netflix picked up the series in 2025, with filming wrapping in April 2026 on a 10-episode debut season. The project was first reported to be in development back in August 2024, following years of fan campaigning that Debbie Allen herself helped fuel with public comments as early as 2012 expressing interest in a reboot.
The official synopsis describes Deborah as “free-spirited, well-intentioned, yet rebellious,” navigating both her parents’ legacy and a full college experience alongside “a whole new generation of Hillman’s best and brightest.”
A Correction Worth Making: Where Team Moms: Baseball Actually Streams
One more title generating buzz this week is Team Moms: Baseball, a Kim Kardashian-produced reality series following families at Legendary Prep Academy, an elite youth baseball training school in Scottsdale, Arizona. It’s worth flagging clearly, though: Team Moms: Baseball is not a Netflix release. It premieres September 24, 2026 exclusively on Paramount+, produced by ITV America (the company behind Love Island USA), Kim Kardashian Productions, and Skydance Sports.
The series follows seven families — the Baldris, the Dunmars, the Feldhackers, the Mears, the Scoffones, the Taylors, and the Wolcziks — whose sons train at the academy, with Kardashian and co-executive producer Natalie Ento framing the show around the drama in the stands as much as the action on the field. “These families are passionate, competitive and completely all in when it comes to their kids,” the pair said in a statement, “and sometimes what happens in the stands is just as intense as what happens on the field.” If you’re specifically trying to watch it, you’ll need a Paramount+ subscription rather than Netflix.
Why These Releases Matter Together
Cold As Balls and A Different World represent two very different bets Netflix is making in the same week. One is a low-cost, high-frequency format bet — a proven interview show with an expanding, increasingly internet-native guest list, designed to generate quick, shareable moments. The other is a high-legacy, high-nostalgia bet — a multi-decade-old sitcom brought back with a meaningful chunk of its original cast, timed down to the exact calendar day of its original premiere to maximize the emotional resonance for longtime fans. Both strategies show up constantly in Netflix’s release calendar, and seeing them land in the same week is a useful snapshot of how differently the platform approaches “proven format, new guests” programming versus “beloved IP, generational handoff” programming. Viewers with a Netflix subscription essentially get both playbooks demonstrated side by side within a five-day window this month.
How AI Search Is Answering Questions About This Week’s Netflix Shows
A growing share of searches around new streaming releases are now being answered by AI-generated overviews rather than traditional link lists, and a few patterns matter for content covering fast-moving TV news like this:
- Guest and cast list queries want structured, exhaustive answers. A search like “Cold as Balls season guests list” is a direct factual lookup, not a request for commentary — content that clearly lists every confirmed name (including late additions like Djokovic and Marcello Hernández) tends to satisfy that intent far better than prose that only mentions the headline names.
- Platform accuracy matters more than ever. With reality and unscripted programming spread across Netflix, Paramount+, Hulu, and others, AI systems increasingly need to get platform attribution exactly right — conflating a Paramount+ show like Team Moms: Baseball with a Netflix release, for example, is exactly the kind of error that erodes trust in an AI-generated answer.
- Legacy IP questions benefit from clear old-vs-new cast labeling. A query like “A Different World Netflix cast” almost always wants to know who’s returning from the original show versus who’s new, which is why clearly separated returning-cast and new-cast lists outperform a single merged cast dump for both readers and AI summarization.
- Exact premiere dates outperform vague timing. “This week” is a moving target; a specific, sourced date (September 20 for Cold As Balls, September 24 for A Different World) is what both search engines and AI overviews are actually trying to extract and surface.
Cold As Balls’ Journey to Netflix
Cold As Balls didn’t start on a major streaming platform. The series launched in 2017 on Hart’s own digital platform, Laugh Out Loud, before later moves expanded its reach, building a cult following across 12 prior seasons and more than 100 episodes before this Netflix debut. The move to Netflix represents a significant scale-up for the format — trading a niche digital audience for the platform’s global reach, while keeping the show’s low-production, high-authenticity format intact. That combination of an established, low-risk format paired with a much bigger built-in audience is a familiar Netflix playbook, similar to how the platform has previously absorbed established unscripted formats from other outlets rather than building every new show from scratch in-house.
The Fanatics Fest filming location is itself notable: rather than shooting in a studio, this season’s episodes were filmed live at the sports memorabilia and fan convention in New York in August 2026, giving the season a different energy and immediacy than earlier studio-shot seasons, with guests captured in the same weekend as major sports news cycles — Cooper Flagg’s episode, for instance, was filmed before his selection in the 2026 NBA Draft, capturing him at a specific moment before his professional career fully began. That timing detail matters for anyone rewatching the episode after the fact, since it’s a snapshot of a player at a career inflection point rather than a retrospective interview looking back on an established pro career.
Why A Different World’s Return Matters Beyond Nostalgia
A Different World wasn’t just a popular sitcom during its original 1987–93 run — it’s widely credited with having a measurable cultural impact, particularly around HBCU (Historically Black College and University) enrollment. The original series is frequently cited as having contributed to real-world increases in HBCU applications during its broadcast years, by presenting Black collegiate life at a fictional HBCU with a depth and normalcy rarely seen on network television at the time. That legacy is a significant part of why the new series’ creative team, led by original executive producer Debbie Allen, has been vocal about wanting the revival to carry forward that same sense of cultural responsibility rather than simply trading on nostalgia.
The choice to premiere on the exact 39th anniversary of the original series’ debut date underscores how deliberately Netflix and the creative team are leaning into that legacy. As Netflix put it in its own announcement, the date was chosen specifically to underscore the platform’s “commitment to honoring the show’s legacy while reintroducing Hillman to a new generation.” That kind of date-matching premiere strategy has become increasingly common for legacy IP revivals across streaming, since it gives marketing teams a built-in news hook and gives longtime fans a specific, symbolic moment to mark on their calendars rather than just another Thursday release.
What to Expect From the New Season’s Storylines
Beyond Deborah’s central journey of stepping out of her famous parents’ shadow, the new series is set up to explore a broader ensemble of Hillman student life through its expanded new-cast roster. The inclusion of Amir Rodale as the show’s first openly queer main character signals a deliberate modernization of the format for a contemporary audience, while Method Man’s role as the football coach brings a recognizable name into a mentorship-adjacent role reminiscent of how the original series used faculty and staff characters to anchor its ensemble. With a 10-episode debut season, there’s substantial room for both returning fan-favorite dynamics (Dwayne and Whitley navigating parenthood after decades as a couple) and fresh storylines built entirely around the new generation of students.
How to Watch Both Shows
- Cold As Balls Season 13 — all seven episodes are available to stream now on Netflix as of September 20, 2026, with a standard subscription and no additional rental required.
- A Different World — the full 10-episode debut season streams on Netflix starting September 24, 2026, also included with a standard subscription.
Both premieres fall within days of each other, making this one of the more eclectic single weeks on Netflix’s 2026 calendar — a sports-comedy interview format on one end, and a multigenerational legacy sitcom revival on the other, giving subscribers a genuine reason to check back on the platform twice in the same five-day stretch rather than once.
